Guarded by the Crow

At the centre of this view you’ll find an iron crow, perched on a gate guarding the entrance to the medieval ruins of Castell Dinas Bran found high above the village of Llangollen. Positioned on the Welsh border, the castle would have seen many a battle in times gone by, crows still circle the hills here, waiting for fallen armies to provide a feast. The bench provides a welcome resting place for weary hikers who make it up to the half way point beyond the steep approach. Here you can see for miles, even as far as the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct in the distance. This particular view captured my imagination and took me many days to draw given the intricacies and detail in almost every frame.
